Raven Vega wants to be taken seriously as a textile archaeologist and the possibility that the puzzling fabric she finds at an Exxon construction site is of alien origin is too absurd to be credible in the academic world she hopes to impress. What’s more, she finds herself drawn into the mythology of her own Pueblo heritage—the world of the Kachina “sky beings” and their home in Shipolo, the “Land of Mist and Clouds”—which proves an unwelcome connection to the UFO sensationalism that she despises. But as she follows the evidence, it seems to suggest that not only might the aliens be real, but she herself may have been brought to Earth by them, and the people she's always called family have been lying to her for years...
Fabric of the Ages is the story of Raven Vega, an ambitious textile archaeologist, and Milo Adams, her laid-back geochemist ex-husband, who discover an eight-hundred-year-old fabric made in a style too advanced for the time and are drawn into a dark past involving the murder of Milo's mother, a mysterious 'missing time' for Raven's people, the descendants of the Pueblo, and the deepening realization that many people they know, including Raven's own family, are not at all what them seem to be.
